Through Flexisoft you can view your email
both through the web browser and through a client such as
Outlook. There is a feature in the web interface (WebMail) that
can help reduce your spam. It uses a technology called Bayesian
Filtering. As you view your email you can mark it as spam and
over time the mail server learns which emails to reject. This
document details what you need to do in order to get the best
use of Bayesian Filtering.
Log into you email through a web browser
such as Internet Explorer
Use the URL mail.yourdomain.com e.g.
mail.flexisoft.com
or
mail.mcadetroit.org or
mail.memtechbrush.com
When viewing an email press the
button
to move the spam to the Junk E-Mail folder.

If the folder does not exist it will create
it.
By pressing the “Mark as Spam” button you
are telling the server that this is Junk email and you don’t
want to see it again.
Be careful – don’t mark valid email as
Spam!
Using this feature of WebMail means that
you have to preview you email prior to downloading it to your
computer. Therefore you may wish to stop your mail client from
automatically downloading mail every 1 minute (or what ever
setting you use). As an example, you can do this in Outlook by
selecting:
Tools | Options | Mail Setup
Press the Send/Receive button
Uncheck Schedule an Automatic send/receive
every 1 minute for both online and offline
Press Close to dismiss the dialog and OK to
close the options

You will now have to manually force a
download of your email using the send/Receive button.
The work process should be
- View your email online
- Mark any spam as appropriate
- When happy that only valid email is in
your mailbox download it using the send/receive button.
Over time you should see a noticeable reduction in spam.
Folder Auto Clean
You may be thinking that over time your
Junk-E-Mail folder will become increasingly larger. This will
not actually be the case. WebMail has a feature called
Auto-Clean.
If you select Settings | My Folder
Auto-Clean you will see the following screen

This shows that when the folder Junk E-Mail reaches
6MB in size it will reduce it to 4 MB
There is also a
similar setting for your deleted
items folder.
The settings
also applying Auto-clean to the Sent Items folder.
If you wish you can override these settings.
It is good practice to keep these values as
low as possible to save taking up too much space on the server.
PLEASE DO NOT DISABLE AUTO-CLEAN ON THE JUNK E-MAIL AND
DELETED ITEMS FOLDERS.
Unmarking an email as Spam
If you accidentally mark an email as
spam (whilst it is in the Junk E-Mail folder) you can unmark it.
Simply "check" the item of email and
select "Unmark as Spam" from the drop down list.
