Internet FAQ 017 - How do I test my hub is working?

The following suggests trouble shooting you may wish to perform if your internet connection is not working.

In writing this FAQ, we assume that nothing has changed as far as machine setup or hardware.

Hubs come in many shapes and sizes, typical hubs look something like one of the following
You can check if your hug is working correctly from the lights on the front. Each port will have a number of green and/or orange lights.  If these are steady then the hub is probably working OK.  If the lights of all the ports are flashing in synchronization then there could be a problem. Additionally if a red error light is displayed then there could be a problem.

If it is suspected that there is a problem then it is worth restarting the hub

Locate the power cable in the back of the hub and remove it.  Wait one minute then reconnect it.

Wait one further minute and for the hub to restart

Check the lights once more they should now all be stable
