Internet FAQ 009 - How do I check that my Internet connection is working?

The following suggests trouble shooting you may wish to perform if your internet connection is not working.

In writing this FAQ, we assume that nothing has changed as far as machine setup or hardware.

Run up your browser and attempt surfing to a web site, such as

    www.flexisoft.com   or   www.microsoft.com

Can you see the web site ?

YES Your internet connection is working.
If you can not get any email proceed to 
FAQ 2  - How do I check the settings for my email
NO Either
a) your internet connection is not working
 proceed to FAQ 7 -
How do I test my cable modem is working?
 or FAQ 8 - How do I test phone connection is working?

b) your settings have changed
If using Internet Explorer click on the IE icon with the right mouse
    Select Properties
    Goto the Connection Tab and check the settings.
        The settings will vary from user to user so can not be specified in this FAQ
